FAQFrequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
-
I know that "fit" is the most important factor in therapy being effective. That is why I offer a free 15-minute consultation call before booking a full session. It gives you a chance to hear my voice, ask questions, and see if you feel a connection. If we aren't the right match, I will happily provide referrals to trusted colleagues who might be a better fit.
-
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We'll talk about what brings you to therapy, the challenges you're currently facing, and what you hope to gain from our work together. I'll also ask questions about your history, relationships, and any important life experiences so I can better understand the full picture. Most importantly, this is a chance for you to ask questions, learn about my approach, and decide whether you feel comfortable moving forward. There's no pressure to share everything in your first session—we'll go at a pace that feels right for you.
-
I offer virtual sessions to clients living in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, or South Carolina.
-
Your session time is reserved exclusively for you. I require 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice will be charged the full session fee.
Fees & Insurance
-
$200 for an intake (60 minute) session
$170 for follow up (45 minute) sessions

I am an out-of-network provider, which means we do not bill insurance companies directly. However, you likely have "out-of-network benefits." I provide you with a monthly medical receipt (called a Superbill) that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement. I recommend calling your insurance provider and asking about your coverage for "outpatient mental health services".
-
Staying out-of-network allows me to maintain full privacy and control over your care. Insurance companies often dictate how many sessions you can have, require a formal mental health diagnosis for your permanent medical record, and can request access to your private session notes. By operating independently, I ensure that your therapy is driven by your needs, not an insurance adjuster's checklist.
-
Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" explaining how much your medical care will cost. Before we begin working together, we will provide you with a clear, written estimate of our session fees so you never have to worry about hidden costs or surprise bills.
-
Yes! I believe therapy should be as accessible as possible. I offer a limited number of sliding scale appointments for clients experiencing financial barriers. If you feel we'd be a good fit but cost is a concern, I encourage you to reach out. I'd be happy to discuss whether a reduced-fee spot is available and find an option that works for your situation.
The Therapy Experience
-
I typically recommend starting with weekly sessions. This helps us build momentum, establish trust, and get to the root of things faster. Once you feel stable and have the tools you need, we can transition to bi-weekly or monthly "maintenance" sessions. We will decide on this cadence together.
-
There is no standard timeline because everyone's story is different. Some clients come for a specific transition and feel ready to move on after 3–6 months. Others value therapy as an ongoing practice for self-reflection and stay for a year or longer. We will regularly check in on your goals to ensure you are getting what you came for.
-
Those are often the most powerful sessions! When we aren't putting out immediate fires, we have the space to go deeper into underlying patterns, dreams, and subtle shifts. You don't need to bring a crisis to the room to do good work. Just bring yourself.
-
Yes. Research has found that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, and life transitions. Virtual therapy also offers the flexibility and convenience of receiving support from the comfort of your own space. As long as you have a private location and a reliable internet connection, online therapy can provide the same meaningful connection and progress as meeting in person.
